On April 8, 2025, Governor Josh Stein announced that Bailey Manufacturing Company (BMC) will invest over $4.3 million in a new production facility in Laurinburg, Scotland County. This expansion will create 35 new jobs, adding to North Carolina's growing manufacturing sector.

"Bailey Manufacturing’s decision to locate to Scotland County is more proof that North Carolina is a top state for businesses across all industries," stated Governor Stein. According to him, North Carolina's strong manufacturing heritage continues to attract companies.

BMC, a New York-based company, focuses on manufacturing stamped metal parts for the automotive industry and offers additional services like machining, welding, and assembly. The planned 50,000-square-foot facility in Laurinburg will increase BMC's production capacity, providing more space for various operations.

“Bailey Manufacturing is excited to join the growing list of automotive suppliers in North Carolina. Our new southeast facility will allow us to better serve our growing customer base," said John Hines, President of BMC. He expressed his gratitude for the support from various North Carolina entities.

N.C. Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley highlighted the role of BMC as a significant addition to the state's automotive supply chain, which includes more than 250 manufacturers. “North Carolina is home to 20 of the top global OEM suppliers," Lilley remarked.

The new jobs will offer an average salary of $52,000, which is above the current Scotland County average. This development could bring an annual payroll impact of approximately $1.8 million to the regional economy.

To facilitate BMC's move to North Carolina, a performance-based grant of $120,000 from the One North Carolina Fund will be provided. The funding necessitates job creation and capital investment commitments from BMC, with local government support required.

State representatives have shown support for BMC's decision. “I am pleased to welcome Bailey Manufacturing Company to Scotland County,” said N.C. Senator Danny Earl Britt. N.C. Representative Garland E. Pierce noted, “This decision by Bailey Manufacturing Company validates Scotland County as a great place for growing companies to do business.”

The project received support from various partners, including the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, and several local entities in the Laurinburg area.
