Governor Josh Stein marked his 100th day in office with a visit to western North Carolina, where he shared updates on recovery initiatives with the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners and participated in a groundbreaking ceremony for an affordable housing project by musician Eric Church in Newland.

"We’ve spent the first 100 days fighting for the people of western North Carolina, and we will not stop now,” Governor Stein said. “I am grateful for all the progress we have made to help western North Carolina rebuild and for our partners who are working to support their communities each and every day. We cannot forget western North Carolina.”

While addressing the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners, Governor Stein reviewed milestones achieved in the region’s recovery and emphasized the importance of continued efforts in rebuilding. He acknowledged the General Assembly's approval of $524 million for relief and advocated for additional funding for home repairs, small business grants, fire prevention, and local government aid.

Additionally, Governor Stein joined country artist Eric Church and his nonprofit, Chief Cares, to initiate an affordable housing project. Stein expressed appreciation to Church for his contribution to building new homes, which he recognized as vital for the overall recovery. The Governor celebrated the allocation of $120 million towards home repairs in the 2025 Disaster Recovery Act and underscored the necessity of sustained investments in recovery efforts. He also noted North Carolina’s swift submission of an action plan for a $1.4 billion grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, marking the fastest submission for a major hurricane in more than ten years.

Governor Stein continues to prioritize collaboration with local, state, and federal entities, as well as private and nonprofit organizations, to bolster the recovery and resilience of western North Carolina.
