Duke Energy has successfully restored power to over 98% of its customers across Indiana following significant outages caused by severe weather including high winds, tornadoes, and heavy rainfall. As of Friday morning, outages have declined from nearly 97,000 to approximately 1,000, primarily affecting Clark and Floyd counties.

Clint Carnahan, general manager of emergency preparedness at Duke Energy, emphasized the commitment to safety and diligence in their ongoing efforts: "We’ve made a lot of progress, but we have to finish strong and do it safely. Restoring the last customer to service is as important as the first," he stated. Carnahan also acknowledged the patience of customers during this period.

The company continues to monitor weather conditions closely to prevent new outages. "We urge customers to remain vigilant," Carnahan advised.

In addressing outages, Duke Energy prioritizes repairs to large power lines and essential services such as hospitals and water facilities before focusing on individual neighborhoods. More information on their restoration process and storm safety tips can be found on their website.

Customers can track power outage updates through Duke Energy’s interactive outage map, and they have several options to report or check the status of outages, including texting, using the mobile app, visiting their website, or calling their automated system.

Duke Energy Indiana, a subsidiary that operates within a 23,000-square-mile service area, supplies electricity to about 910,000 customers. The parent company, headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., provides various services to millions across several states and is focused on enhancing its infrastructure and energy production capabilities.

For further details, updates, and information about Duke Energy’s initiatives, resources are available on their website and social media channels.
