FEMA has agreed to extend the deadline for the Individual Assistance Program by 30 days, following a request from Governor Josh Stein. The new deadline is April 7, 2025. Governor Stein expressed gratitude in his statement:

Homeowners and renters in various counties affected by Tropical Storm Helene may be eligible for FEMA assistance if they experienced uninsured losses. Last month, Stein requested an additional $19 billion in federal funds for infrastructure restoration and disaster mitigation.

Residents can apply for assistance through local Disaster Recovery Centers, the FEMA hotline at (1-800) 621-3362, or online. Those with insurance should file claims with their insurers before applying for FEMA aid but do not need to wait for settlement.

If an application is denied, individuals can appeal via local centers, the hotline, or Legal Aid of NC's portal. For further recovery support, contact the NC Disaster Case Management Program at 1-844-746-2326.
