Governor Josh Stein has reminded residents of North Carolina about the upcoming deadlines for federal assistance following Hurricane Helene. The governor emphasized the importance of utilizing available resources for recovery.
“As folks across western North Carolina continue to rebuild their lives and businesses after Hurricane Helene, it’s important to know what resources are available to support recovery,” said Governor Josh Stein. “Thousands of western North Carolinians have already taken advantage of these federal resources, but there is still time to apply. I encourage everyone to get the assistance they need from these programs.”
Key deadlines include:
- March 8, 2025: Deadline for FEMA Individual Assistance for those affected by Tropical Storm Helene. Applications can be submitted online at disasterassistance.gov, by phone at 1-800-621-3362, or via the FEMA app. Assistance covers housing solutions, hotel cost reimbursements, primary residence repairs, and disaster-related expenses.
- March 10, 2025: Extended deadline for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) for individuals in 39 counties and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. More information is available at des.nc.gov/dua or by calling 919-629-3857 (English) or 919-276-5698 (Spanish).
- March 29, 2025: Final date for DUA benefits payment.
- April 27, 2025: SBA physical damage loan deadline extension due to the federal funding lapse in 2024. Applicants can contact the SBA Customer Service Center at (800) 659-2955 or email disastercustomerservice@sba.gov.
- June 30, 2025: Deadline for returning SBA economic injury applications. Contact information remains the same as above.
Residents are encouraged to visit a Disaster Recovery Center or apply online through DisasterAssistance.gov. Additional application options include downloading the FEMA App or calling the helpline at 800-621-3362.
