The North Carolina Coastal Resources Commission (CRC) is set to hold its meeting on February 26 and 27 at the DoubleTree New Bern Riverfront, located at 100 Middle Street in New Bern. The public can attend the CRC meeting either in person or online.
The regular business session will commence at 3 p.m. on February 26 and continue at 9 a.m. the following day. An in-person public comment period is scheduled for noon on February 27, with each individual’s comments potentially limited to three minutes, subject to the chair's discretion. Concurrently, the Coastal Resources Advisory Council will convene in person only on February 26 at 1 p.m. at the same venue.
Agenda items for February 26 include consideration of variance requests for projects such as artificial turf installation in Carolina Beach, oceanfront setback in North Topsail Beach, and sandbag use by The Shoals Club on Bald Head Island. Additionally, a public hearing will address the installation and maintenance of wheat straw bales for sand fencing.
On February 27, discussions will cover topics such as an update on CRC vs. RRC litigation, objections from the Rules Review Commission, history of ocean hazard setbacks, major permits follow-up, and recommendations for permanent rulemaking related to environmental concerns and use standards for ocean hazard areas.
