Amazon has announced the opening of a Same-Day Delivery facility in Kannapolis, North Carolina, and plans to launch four new last-mile facilities in Jacksonville, Mount Airy, Southern Pines, and Tarboro. The announcement was made in a press release on January 9, 2025.

According to the press release, Amazon's Same-Day Delivery facility in Kannapolis will span 200,000 square feet and create over 100 jobs. Additionally, the company will establish four new last-mile facilities aimed at improving package delivery efficiency. These facilities will serve as the final sorting points before packages are delivered to customers. The locations vary in size from 60,000 to 100,000 square feet and are strategically situated to optimize local delivery routes.

"North Carolina is a great place to do business and we're proud to be expanding our operations footprint across the state through collaborative partnerships and our continued commitment to economic growth," said Economic Development Manager for Amazon Sam Blatt. "We're looking forward to better serving local customers, creating job opportunities for the talented workforce in this region and appreciate the support we’ve received from these communities."

Since 2010, Amazon has invested $12 billion in North Carolina, including infrastructure and employee compensation. This investment has contributed $13.1 billion to the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). As of January 2024, Amazon has created 24,000 jobs with an additional 26,400 indirect jobs. Over 11,000 independent sellers operate within the state. Key investments by Amazon include 13 fulfillment centers, 14 delivery stations, 16 Whole Foods locations, and renewable energy projects such as wind and solar farms.

Amazon provides a range of services including online and in-person shopping, delivery of fresh produce, media distribution through platforms like Alexa and Fire TV, and cloud solutions via Amazon Web Services (AWS). Its operations encompass logistics and customer service while also delivering entertainment through platforms like Amazon Originals, Prime Video, and Audible.
