For 2026, Toyota is set to enhance its sports car lineup with the new GR86 Yuzu Edition. This model will feature a Yuzu Yellow exterior, reminiscent of its predecessor, the Scion FR-S Release Series 1.0. Toyota will offer the GR86 Yuzu Edition as part of the GR86 Premium grade, featuring 18-inch matte-black wheels and black accents. The interior will be black with yellow accents, including Ultrasuede-trimmed sport seats.
Performance-wise, the GR86 comes equipped with a 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder boxer engine, providing 228 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine allows for a 0-60 mph acceleration in 6.1 seconds with the six-speed manual transmission and 6.6 seconds with the automatic. The GR86 lineup for 2026 will include three grades: GR86, GR86 Premium, and GR86 Yuzu Edition.
Toyota plans to start distributing the GR86 in the fall of 2025, with only 860 Yuzu Editions available in North America for the model year. The GR86 models are known for their agile chassis, created from a combination of high-strength steel and aluminum. Additional improvements include Brembo Brakes and SACHS Dampers as part of a performance package standard on the Yuzu Edition.
The GR86 models are equipped with modern technology, including a low driver-focused cockpit with a digital instrument panel, a push-button start, and a variety of driving modes. In terms of safety, all GR86 models come standard with an Active Safety Suite, featuring various driver-assist technologies.
Toyota continues to emphasize its commitment to motorsports, offering a complimentary 1-year membership to the National Auto Sport Association for buyers. This aligns with the company's efforts in developing new technologies through motorsports and providing customer engagement through events like the GR Cup Championship.
Toyota's standard warranty covers 36,000 miles or 36 months for new vehicles, with additional powertrain and corrosion coverage. ToyotaCare offers two years or 25,000 miles of scheduled maintenance, along with 24-hour roadside assistance.
Toyota remains a significant player in the automotive industry in the U.S., employing nearly 48,000 people and focusing on sustainable mobility, including a shift towards electrified vehicles. The company has committed to advancing educational programs through its Driving Possibilities initiative.
