Duke Energy has restored power to over 74,000 customers in Indiana following severe storms that led to 85,000 outages. As of 11:45 a.m., approximately 10,500 customers were still without electricity. The company continues to assess damage caused by the storms and high winds, which reached speeds of 65-80 miles per hour. The strong winds resulted in broken utility poles, fallen trees on power lines, and damage to infrastructure, while flooding has also complicated the restoration efforts in some areas.

"We are bringing in additional crews to supplement our statewide workforce and speed power restoration," stated Clint Carnahan, general manager of emergency preparedness at Duke Energy. "Our priority is always to restore service as quickly and safely as possible, and we appreciate our customers’ patience while we respond."

Duke Energy's restoration strategy prioritizes repairing large power lines and infrastructure to restore power to the maximum number of customers efficiently. Critical services such as hospitals and water facilities are given priority before crews attend to individual neighborhoods and homes.

Customers can report outages via text, mobile app, website, or the automated phone system. The company encourages enrollment in Outage Alerts for real-time updates and provides an interactive outage map on their website.

Safety remains paramount, with Duke Energy providing guidelines for handling electrical risks, especially concerning flooding. If a building is flooded, an electrician must inspect and repair damage before power is reconnected.

Duke Energy Indiana, a subsidiary of Duke Energy, serves around 910,000 customers and operates 6,300 megawatts of electric capacity in a 23,000-square-mile area, making it the largest electric supplier in the state.

Duke Energy, headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., is a Fortune 150 energy holding company serving 8.4 million electric customers across several states and managing 54,800 megawatts of energy capacity. It focuses on major grid upgrades and transitioning to cleaner energy, including natural gas, nuclear, renewables, and energy storage.
