The North Carolina Courage have announced the signing of defender Brooklyn Courtnall to a three-year contract, extending through the 2027 NWSL season. This marks the first time the club has signed a collegiate player under the new post-draft era process.

Courtnall, who played for the University of Southern California, was recognized as a first-team All-American in 2024. Over her four years with the Trojans from 2021 to 2024, she appeared in 78 matches and was a key part of their defense. Her senior year saw her earn first-team All-Big 10 and All-America honors while leading her team to the Big 10 regular season title and an NCAA quarterfinal appearance.

Expressing her enthusiasm about joining the Courage, Courtnall stated, “I’m so grateful to sign with the Courage and to join such an amazing organization. I can’t wait to get started and grow in this competitive environment. North Carolina has set a standard for championships and I’m excited to continue that.”

Courage Head Coach Sean Nahas praised Courtnall's abilities and potential contribution to the team: “This is a great signing for our club to bring in someone of Brooklyn’s quality. Credit to our staff for their scouting to find her... She’s a very good defender in all facets of the game and comes from a collegiate background that fits in with our attacking style of play."

Courtnall also brings international experience from her participation with Canada's Youth National Team at the 2022 Under-20 FIFA Women’s World Cup, where she helped secure a bronze medal.

Brooklyn Courtnall hails from an athletic family; her father Russ Courtnall had a lengthy career in the National Hockey League, while her siblings have also been involved in sports at competitive levels.

Her contract becomes effective on January 1, ahead of joining preseason camp with her new team mid-January.
