The North Carolina Courage have announced their roster decisions for the end of 2024, as mandated by the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). The team has confirmed that 25 players are contracted through at least the 2025 season.
The club is currently in contract negotiations with some players who are free agents, including Kerolin Nicoli, the NWSL MVP for 2023. Earlier this week, the Courage revealed plans to waive defenders Julia Dorsey and Landy Mertz. Additionally, Natalia Staude, a second-round pick from the 2024 Draft, is on loan to Tampa Bay Sun FC of the USL Super League until December's end.
Estelle Johnson will not receive a contract extension after her current deal expires at year's end. According to the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), if Johnson does not sign with another team, she will be invited to join preseason camp in 2025 following her maternity leave.
The list of players under contract through 2025 includes:
Goalkeepers: Marisa Bova, Hensley Hancuff, Casey Murphy
Defenders: Maycee Bell, Malia Berkely, Sydney Collins (SEI), Kaleigh Kurtz, Charlotte McLean, Felicitas Rauch, Natalia Staude (LOAN), Ryan Williams
Midfielders: Riley Jackson, Denise O’Sullivan, Victoria Pickett, Brianna Pinto, Ashley Sanchez, Meredith Speck, Dani Weatherholt
Forwards: Aline Gomes, Haley Hopkins, Tyler Lussi, Manaka Matsukubo, Bianca St-Georges, Cortnee Vine, Olivia Wingate
"SEI" indicates players on the season-ending injury list and "LOAN" denotes those loaned out until December 31.
