The North Carolina Source Water Collaborative recently announced the recipients of the Source Water Protection Awards. This recognition took place during the Water Resources Research Institute’s annual conference last month.
The awards are given to individuals and organizations that demonstrate efforts to protect public drinking water sources. All individuals, groups, organizations, or agencies involved in such protective actions are eligible candidates.
Awards were distributed in various categories. Cape Fear River Watch received the Education and Leadership Award for "their PFAS Advocacy and Litter Clean-Up Efforts." Furthermore, Jessica Janc earned the Education Award for "her efforts as the High Country Program Director with Collaborative Educational Programs."
"The Department of Environmental Quality provides leadership for the N.C. Source Water Collaborative," which comprises volunteers from nonprofit organizations, universities, state, local and federal agencies, professional associations, and regional councils of government.
The group is committed to developing strategies that "preserve lakes, streams, rivers, and aquifers used for drinking water, as well as land that protects and recharges these sources of water."
