The plan has received attention from various officials and experts who have shared their views on its key components.
Alexandra Sirota from the NC Budget and Tax Center stated that "the Governor's proposal makes sure working families keep more of what they earn" by implementing targeted tax cuts. This initiative is expected to help families manage rising costs for essentials such as groceries and rent.
The North Carolina Partnership for Children expressed satisfaction with the increased investments in children's programs. They highlighted support for subsidized child care, NC Pre-K, tax credits for working families, and child care options for state employees as measures that could boost the state's economy.
The Carolina Hunger Initiative emphasized the positive impact of nutrition programs included in the budget. They noted that "the funding allocated to make school breakfast available at no cost to all families would be a crucial step towards ending child hunger."
The NC Early Childhood Foundation praised the ambitious nature of the budget, stating it prioritizes children, working families, public schools, and long-term economic strength.
In terms of workforce development, MyFutureNC acknowledged alignment with their policy priorities aimed at maintaining North Carolina's competitiveness. Surry-Yadkin Works supported initiatives like Propel NC that enhance work-based learning opportunities for students.
Education improvements were also a focal point. State Superintendent Mo Green applauded efforts to raise teacher salaries and restore master's pay for eligible teachers. He remarked on the deep commitment shown toward valuing educators and addressing teacher shortages.
Eric Davis from the State Board of Education joined Mo Green in supporting the education budget proposal that aligns closely with their priorities for public education.
Abby Emanuelson from NC School Meals for All appreciated the $85 million allocation intended to provide free breakfast to K-12 students across North Carolina.
Public safety and health measures were also addressed in Governor Stein's proposal. The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality noted critical investments aimed at safeguarding air, land, water resources; improving community resiliency; and researching emerging compounds.
The North Carolina Council on Developmental Disabilities expressed gratitude toward Governor Stein's focus on developmental disabilities despite challenging budget conditions. The Arc of NC echoed this sentiment while emphasizing funding needs for vocational rehabilitation and Healthy Opportunities programs.
