Governor Josh Stein visited Ferguson-Easley Elementary School in Fayetteville, North Carolina, to discuss his 2025-2027 budget proposal aimed at enhancing education. The visit allowed him to engage with educators and administrators while emphasizing the importance of investing in students, teachers, and public schools.

"North Carolina’s children are our most important investment, and our state’s budget must reflect our commitment to them," stated Governor Stein. He underscored the need for competitive teacher salaries, well-maintained school facilities, and prioritizing student welfare.

Cumberland County Schools Superintendent Dr. Marvin Connely Jr. expressed gratitude for the governor's visit: "We are honored to welcome Governor Josh Stein to Ferguson-Easley Elementary today... it is critical that we continue to invest in them." Dr. Connely highlighted the significance of providing modern learning environments for student success.

Ferguson-Easley Elementary School Principal Eric McLaurin emphasized his educational philosophy: "As an educational leader, I firmly believe that effective communication, problem-solving, and the use of technology are essential in preparing our students for success." He also stressed the importance of nurturing a home-school-community connection.

The previous day, Governor Stein announced a budget proposal that aims to attract new teachers by raising starting salaries to the highest in the southeast and retaining excellent teachers through increased pay and professional development opportunities. The plan includes measures such as hiring more school nurses and social workers, offering free breakfast in public schools, upgrading security measures, and proposing a $4 billion bond for school modernization efforts.
