Duke Energy Foundation has announced a significant investment in North Carolina's community colleges, with $500,000 allocated to support 19 programs aimed at developing skilled workers for the energy industry. An additional $100,000 grant will aid the Forward Fund, which helps students in Southeastern North Carolina access high-wage employment opportunities.

Kendal Bowman, Duke Energy’s North Carolina president, emphasized the importance of this initiative: “As our state and industry continue to grow, North Carolina’s community colleges are helping us meet the moment. As technologies change and we modernize our energy fleet, we want talent here in the state to help us support our communities and build a smarter energy future for customers.”

Durham Technical Community College is among the beneficiaries, receiving a $25,000 grant to enhance its Electric Line Technician Training program. J.B. Buxton, President of Durham Technical Community College, stated: “Duke Energy’s continued commitment to Durham Tech ensures we are connecting skilled individuals to good jobs like electric line technicians.”

The Forward Fund (TFF) will receive an investment from Duke Energy Foundation for the first time. TFF offers zero-interest loans covering essential expenses such as transportation and child care for students enrolled in short-term training programs aligned with regional employer demand. Meaghan Dennis, founder and CEO of TFF, expressed enthusiasm about this partnership: "The Forward Fund is thrilled to receive this grant from Duke Energy Foundation to expand access of our customized, student-centered financing."

Duke Energy Foundation provides over $30 million annually in philanthropic support across communities where its customers reside. The foundation is funded by Duke Energy shareholders.

Duke Energy itself is one of America’s largest energy holding companies and serves millions of customers across several states. The company is committed to an ambitious energy transition focusing on reliability and value while investing in electric grid upgrades and cleaner generation methods.
