Josh Stein, Governor | Office of the Governor of North Carolina
Governor Josh Stein visited a dairy farm in Haywood County to assess the impact of Hurricane Helene on local agriculture and urged the General Assembly to pass stalled relief funding. The Governor emphasized the challenges faced by family farms due to the storm.
“Many family farms have been struggling after Hurricane Helene,” stated Governor Stein. “They need us to do our jobs, so I urge the House and Senate to come together and send me a bill to get western North Carolina aid as quickly as possible.”
In his State of the State address, Governor Stein stressed the importance of passing relief measures for Hurricane Helene and praised community efforts in recovery. Since assuming office, he has prioritized recovery initiatives with urgency and transparency.
Efforts by Governor Stein include encouraging applications for the Private Road and Bridge Program. FEMA recently granted his requests for 30-day extensions for Public Assistance and Individual Assistance programs. In addition, he sought $19 billion in federal funds last month for infrastructure restoration and disaster impact reduction.
Governor Stein is also advocating for state funding following his $1.07 billion request to meet immediate needs post-Hurricane Helene. A recovery dashboard launched by the Governor’s Recovery Office provides updates on progress.
