The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Coastal Management will conduct a public hearing on March 18 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Town Hall in Duck, North Carolina. The purpose is to gather public input on the Coastal Area Management Act application submitted by the North Carolina Department of Transportation and the North Carolina Turnpike Authority for the proposed Mid-Currituck Bridge project.

NCDEQ previously announced in February 2025 that it had received a complete CAMA permit application from NCDOT on January 7, 2025. This application pertains to the Mid-Currituck Bridge Project (TIP No. R-2576), which plans to span Currituck Sound from Aydlett to south of Corolla, including related road improvements in Currituck and Dare Counties. Interested parties can review NCDOT's CAMA application at the DCM office located at 400 Commerce Ave., Morehead City during regular business hours or online.

Details of the Public Hearing:

- Date: Tuesday, March 18, 2025

- Time: 5-7 p.m. (in-person only)

- Location: Town of Duck’s Town Hall, 1200 Duck Road, Duck, NC

- Registration: Speaker registration begins at 4 p.m. via onsite sign-in sheet

Public comments can be made either in writing or verbally at the hearing. The hearing officer may limit speaking time based on the number of participants registered to speak.

The comment period will close on April 17, 2025. Comments should be sent to Tancred Miller, Director, Division of Coastal Management, at their Morehead City address or via email with “Mid-Currituck CAMA application” as the subject line.

All feedback will be taken into account when making the final decision regarding the permit. Written requests can be made for notification of this decision once it has been finalized.
