Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) has announced the latest recipients of grants from its Way Forward Fund. This initiative aims to improve access to care for children and families affected by childhood injuries, such as traumatic brain injuries (TBI).

The grant recipients include Abide Women’s Health Services, Children’s Advocacy Centers of Cameron and Willacy Counties, East Oakland Youth Development Center, Eastern Michigan University, Orlando Health, Regents of the University of Michigan, UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals Oakland, and UTHealth Houston.

Mylene Mayers, group manager of Toyota’s Way Forward Fund, stated: “The Way Forward Fund is focused on raising awareness, advancing research, and helping to improve equitable access to care for communities across the country.” She emphasized that these grants represent progress in collaboration with community and health organizations to provide essential pediatric care.

Toyota's commitment through the Way Forward Fund involves investing in sustainable programs with a long-term impact. The company is working with the TBI care community to address funding gaps for children and support health equity.

Ana Meade, VP of Sustainable Development Division at Toyota, commented: “As a mobility company, we believe a person’s ability to move is foundational to meeting their full potential. By supporting organizations that are bridging gaps in care, we are aiming to provide more children and families access to the care they need when they need it.”

In this round of funding, over $4 million was distributed among selected institutions focusing on improving healthcare quality in underserved communities. The importance of addressing TBI as a major pediatric health condition was highlighted by references from the National Academy of Science, Engineering and Medicine and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
