Following an investigation conducted by North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement (ALE), ABC permits at a Raleigh bar have been suspended after several violent incidents, including a reported shooting early on Sunday morning.

On April 13, 2025, the Raleigh Police Department responded to a shooting at Starbar, located at 1731 Trawick Road. Although there were no injuries, multiple vehicles were damaged by gunfire.

Bryan House, Director of North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement, stated, "ALE special agents conducted an investigation into ongoing violence associated with Starbar, which ultimately resulted in the immediate suspension of its ABC permits by the ABC Commission. During the suspension, it is illegal to sell or serve alcohol at this establishment. We hope this suspension will help prevent future violence and have a positive impact on the surrounding community."

Starbar has been associated with a history of violent incidents, numerous arrests, and multiple service calls. These include offenses such as controlled substance violations, assaults, disturbances, shootings, and ABC violations occurring on or nearby the licensed premises. Due to these factors and the recent shooting, the ABC Commission proceeded to suspend Starbar's permits.

For information related to the suspension, inquiries can be directed to the North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission or their website.

The investigation of the shooting is currently being conducted by the Raleigh Police Department.

The Alcohol Law Enforcement (ALE) unit, comprised of special agents with statewide jurisdiction, aims to bolster community safety by addressing criminal acts at both ABC-licensed and illicit alcohol establishments. ALE operates as the primary enforcement body for North Carolina's alcoholic beverage control, gambling, lottery, and tobacco regulations, with key authority over nuisance abatement statutes.
