Duke Energy is actively monitoring weather forecasts in preparation for potentially severe weather conditions in Indiana. The company anticipates damaging winds and flooding in its service area later in the day.
“A critical part of being safe in severe weather is being prepared,” stated Clint Carnahan, Duke Energy's General Manager of Emergency Preparedness. “We do regular storm planning throughout the year, and we want our customers to be prepared as well so they can react quickly during a storm.”
To stay prepared, customers are advised to keep mobile phones charged and have supplies like flashlights, batteries, bottled water, nonperishable foods, and medicines ready. Those with special needs or reliant on electric-powered life support should plan for extended power outages, including alternate shelter options.
Duke Energy provides multiple ways for customers to report outages: via text (OUT to 57801), through the Duke Energy mobile app, online at duke-energy.com/outages, or by calling 800.POWERON (800.343.3525). Up-to-date restoration information is available through Duke Energy’s outage map and by enrolling in Outage Alerts.
Safety guidelines stress the dangers of water and electricity. It is essential to avoid downed electrical lines and not to replace fuses or touch circuit breakers with wet hands.
