The North Carolina Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve is set to conduct its Spring local advisory committee meetings on April 22 and April 23. The meetings will be held in person and are open to the public.

The first meeting will occur at the Rachel Carson Reserve on April 22 at 3 p.m. It will take place at the NOAA Beaufort Laboratory’s Administration Building, located at 101 Pivers Island Rd, Beaufort, NC 28516. The second meeting will take place on April 23 at 1 p.m. at the Kitty Hawk Woods Reserve. This meeting will be held at the Kitty Hawk Town Hall, located at 101 Veterans Memorial Dr, Kitty Hawk, NC 27949.

Local advisory committees feature residents and representatives from various community organizations, government agencies, and non-governmental partner organizations. These committees offer guidance and feedback to the Division of Coastal Management’s Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve personnel regarding program activities and reserve site management.

The North Carolina Division of Coastal Management operates under the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality. It aims to protect, conserve, and manage the coastal resources of North Carolina across its 20 coastal counties. The Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve Program has been safeguarding natural areas for education, research, and compatible traditional uses since 1989, preserving over 44,000 acres of unique coastal environments at 10 sites along the coast.
