Duke Energy has announced a new initiative to support residents of Florida during the 2025 baseball season, coinciding with the commencement of the Tampa Bay Rays' regular season. For every win by the Rays, the company and its foundation will contribute $1,000 to their Share the Light Fund, which aids Florida residents in paying their utility bills.
Melissa Seixas, the state president of Duke Energy Florida, emphasized the company's commitment to its customers, stating, "Duke Energy Florida is proud to serve each of our 2 million customers each day. During life’s challenging times we remain committed, which can be seen through the availability of our assistance programs." Seixas highlighted the partnership with the Tampa Bay Rays as a vital opportunity to extend their reach to customers in need.
The Share the Light Fund is designed to assist Floridians with utility expenses, supported by donations from employees, retirees, customers, and Duke Energy shareholders. These contributions are matched dollar for dollar, up to $500,000, by the Duke Energy Foundation. In the previous year, the program provided nearly $750,000 in aid to eligible customers across the state.
Funds from the initiative are distributed on a monthly basis through social service agencies within the company’s 35-county service area. Some of these agencies include the United Way Suncoast. Customers can find a comprehensive list of service providers by county for assistance.
Besides the Share the Light Fund, Duke Energy offers various programs aimed at helping customers manage their energy usage and reduce expenses. These include Home Energy Checks, Home Improvement Rebate Programs, the Income-Qualified Weatherization Program, and the EnergyWise Home Program, among others.
The company also provides several tips to help customers lower their energy usage, such as adjusting thermostats to comfortable levels, replacing air filters, scheduling heating system maintenance, and using LED bulbs in place of standard ones.
Further information about these programs and services is available on Duke Energy's website or through the customer care number on energy bills.
The Duke Energy Foundation contributes over $30 million annually to community support initiatives. Duke Energy Florida, a subsidiary of the larger Duke Energy Corporation, serves two million customers across a 13,000-square-mile area in Florida. Overall, Duke Energy provides electricity to 8.4 million customers in various states and is known for its significant investments in grid upgrades and clean energy.
