Duke Energy Florida lineworkers excelled at the 2025 Florida Lineman’s Rodeo on March 8, with 15 participants winning top awards. These victories secure their participation in the International Lineman’s Rodeo, scheduled for October 18 in Bonner Springs, Kansas.
Lineman’s rodeos assess skills such as pole climbing, equipment repair, and rescue operations while promoting safety and teamwork. The winners of this event previously contributed to hurricane recovery efforts after hurricanes Debby, Helene, and Milton. Jason Williams, Duke Energy Florida's senior vice president of power grid operations, expressed pride in the line teams' dedication: “We put complete trust in our lineworkers to perform challenging, highly skilled work and provide the energy we all rely on, all while keeping safety for both our customers and each other as the top priority."
The winners include Corey Sill from Ocala taking first place in Apprentice Overall Awards. Dalton Adams from Southeast Orlando led his team to victory in Journeyman Overall Awards. In Journeyman Senior Overall Awards, Chet Braden from Walsingham emerged victorious.
In past competitions like the 2023 International Lineman’s Rodeo, Duke Energy lineworkers earned four awards. However, participation was limited in 2024 due to hurricane responses.
The event received support from volunteers including Duke Energy employees and community college students. As Duke Energy continues modernizing its energy grid amidst rapid regional growth, it relies heavily on its skilled workforce. Williams noted that the work of these teams is pivotal: “Beyond battling extreme weather, the valuable work our line teams do every day is enabling Duke Energy to build a grid that is smarter, stronger and more reliable.”
Duke Energy collaborates with local colleges to recruit diverse candidates into lineworking careers. The company serves millions across several states with significant energy capacity.
