Apple is set to launch a new immersive concert experience featuring Metallica on its Apple Vision Pro platform this Friday, March 14. The concert was filmed in Mexico City during the final show of the band's M72 World Tour's second year and includes performances of "Whiplash," "One," and "Enter Sandman." This experience uses Apple Immersive Video technology, providing ultra-high-resolution 180-degree video and Spatial Audio, offering fans close-up views from the Snake Pit to wide-angle shots of the performance.

Customers can book a demo at their local Apple Store to experience this new form of spatial computing. An extended preview of Metallica's performance will be available starting Friday, along with an EP titled "M72 World Tour: Mexico City" in Spatial Audio on Apple Music.

Lars Ulrich of Metallica expressed excitement about the project, stating, “Game changing is putting it lightly.” Tor Myhren, Apple's vice president of Marketing Communications, commented on the collaboration with Metallica, saying it allows fans to feel like they are part of the concert experience.

To capture this event, Apple employed a custom stage layout with 14 cameras using various technologies. Lars Ulrich discussed the immersive concert experience and Metallica's commitment to their fans during an interview with Zane Lowe from Apple Music at SXSW 2025. Their conversation will be available on YouTube.

In addition to Metallica's concert, other content available exclusively on Apple Vision Pro includes episodes from series such as Adventure and Boundless. New immersive sports films like VIP: Yankee Stadium will also be accessible worldwide starting April 4.

Bono: Stories of Surrender will debut globally in May as a special edition film on both Apple Vision Pro and Apple TV+. It marks Bono’s first feature-length film in Apple Immersive Video format.

The Apple Vision Pro device is available in several countries including Australia, Canada, China mainland, Hong Kong, France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, UAE, UK, and US. Customers can book free demos online at participating locations. New films and episodes debut in U.S. English with subtitles available in other languages. Some content is accessible through apps like Migu Video and Tencent Video for users in China mainland.

Apple TV+ subscription costs $9.99 per month with a seven-day free trial for new subscribers. Eligible customers who purchase select Apple products can receive three months of free access to Apple TV+.
