Apple has introduced the new MacBook Air, now equipped with the M4 chip and available in a new sky blue color. The laptop offers up to 18 hours of battery life, a 12MP Center Stage camera, and starts at a lower price of $999. For education buyers, the starting price is $899. The device supports two external displays along with its built-in display and includes 16GB of unified memory.
Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, stated: “MacBook Air is by far the world’s most popular laptop, and today we’re giving everyone even more reasons to love it, including a big boost in performance with the M4 chip, a new Center Stage camera, and a beautiful new sky blue color.” He added that with its reduced price point, "MacBook Air delivers more value to consumers than ever before."
The M4 chip enhances performance for tasks ranging from everyday activities to demanding ones like photo and video editing. It features a 10-core CPU and GPU, supporting up to 32GB of unified memory. This makes it twice as fast as the previous M1 model. Compared to Intel-based models, users can expect significantly faster performance in applications such as Microsoft Excel and Adobe Photoshop.
The new MacBook Air also introduces Apple Intelligence features like Image Playground and Genmoji for creative expression. Siri improvements allow for seamless interaction between spoken and typed requests. ChatGPT integration is available without account creation while maintaining user privacy.
A notable feature is the 12MP Center Stage camera which keeps users centered during video calls. The MacBook Air can connect up to two 6K external displays besides its Liquid Retina display.
Apple continues its environmental initiatives by using recycled materials in the MacBook Air's construction. Over 55% of its content is recycled, including aluminum and rare earth elements.
Pre-orders for the new MacBook Air are open now on apple.com/store with availability starting March 12 in Apple Store locations worldwide.
