Red Hat, Inc., a prominent provider of open source solutions, has announced the release of Red Hat OpenShift 4.18. This latest version of their hybrid cloud application platform is powered by Kubernetes and aims to enhance security and simplify operations across virtual machines and containers.
Mike Barrett, vice president and general manager of Hybrid Cloud Platforms at Red Hat, emphasized the importance of this update for organizations at a critical juncture with their virtualized infrastructure. He stated that "Red Hat OpenShift meets today’s virtualization needs and offers a simplified pathway to migration, but also enables organizations to keep an eye on the future via application modernization."
The new version introduces features aimed at improving virtualization experiences such as networking enhancements, storage migration simplifications, and streamlined VM management. These updates are intended to reduce operational complexity while enhancing flexibility and resource efficiency.
Additionally, Red Hat OpenShift 4.18 expands its support for public cloud providers by including bare-metal deployments on Google Cloud and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. For those interested in virtualization in the public cloud, Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization is now available on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure as a technology preview.
Security has also been enhanced with new features like the Secret Store Container Storage Interface (CSI) driver. This provides a vendor-agnostic solution for managing credentials securely without storing secrets on clusters.
Red Hat OpenShift 4.18 is now generally available with more information accessible through their official channels.
