Duke Energy has announced the appointment of Katherine Neebe as its new chief communications officer, effective February 24. Neebe, who is currently serving as senior vice president and chief sustainability officer, will take over from Oscar Suris. Suris will transition to a role as a senior advisor.

Louis Renjel, executive vice president and chief corporate affairs officer at Duke Energy, expressed confidence in Neebe's capabilities: “Katherine has demonstrated a deep appreciation for the critical role that clear, timely communications play in fostering trust among our stakeholders.” He further emphasized her leadership skills and experience in external affairs.

Neebe herself commented on her new role: “Delivering business outcomes by serving our customers and communities will remain my focus. Corporate Communications is essential in advancing our ambitious energy modernization strategy, aimed at meeting our communities’ growing and evolving energy needs.”

During his tenure, Suris reorganized Duke Energy’s Corporate Communications into an integrated entity combining communications, public affairs, and brand marketing. Renjel acknowledged Suris's contributions: “I am thankful for Oscar’s dedication and commitment to Duke Energy during his tenure here.”

Suris reflected on his time with the company: “It’s been my privilege to work with this talented team and tell the dynamic story of Duke Energy. This is the right time to transition to an advisor role and help empower the next generation of communications leaders.”

In addition to these changes, Amy Strecker will temporarily lead Neebe’s former organization while continuing her responsibilities as president of the Duke Energy Foundation.

Neebe brings extensive experience to her new position. She has held leadership roles at Fortune 100+ companies like Walmart and World Wildlife Fund. Her previous role at Duke Energy involved directing sustainability initiatives and overseeing significant philanthropic investments through the Duke Energy Foundation.

Duke Energy is a major player in America's energy sector, serving millions across several states with both electric and natural gas utilities. The company is actively pursuing an energy transition focused on reliability and cleaner generation options.
