The North Carolina Courage have announced a three-year contract extension for defender Ryan Williams, securing her place with the team through the 2027 NWSL season. Williams' previous contract was set to expire at the end of the 2025 season.
Williams has distinguished herself as one of the top defensive players in the league this year, leading all defenders with 55 tackles and 54 interceptions. She also ranks second overall in these categories. Offensively, she has been active, completing more passes into the final third than any other defender and creating numerous chances.
"Re-signing with the Courage means everything to me," Williams expressed. "I am so honored and so grateful to be extending my contract for three more years." She added her appreciation for the club's support over her seven seasons with them.
Head Coach Sean Nahas praised Williams' dedication and impact on the team: "This extension is a culmination of commitment, dedication, drive, willingness to learn, effort and coachability. Ryan has been an integral piece of our team and backline."
Chief Soccer Officer Curt Johnson also commended Williams: "This is so well deserved for Ryan. She has put in the work every single day behind the scenes to earn more and more playing time and opportunities."
Drafted by the Courage in 2018 after a successful college career at TCU, Williams has grown into a regular starter since 2023. Her achievements include setting personal records this season across various performance metrics.
Throughout her tenure with North Carolina Courage, Williams has won seven trophies including two NWSL Shields and two NWSL Championships.
Williams will next compete with her team against Kansas City Current in the NWSL playoffs quarterfinals on Saturday.
