To Perform A Prescribed Burn On The Meadow And Forest | COUNTY OF WAKE : (https://www.wakegov.com/)
County of Wake issued the following announcement on Feb. 6.
Open Space staff (who manage Robertson Millpond Preserve, Sandy Pines Preserve, and Turnipseed Nature Preserve) came out on Tuesday to perform a prescribed burn on the meadow and forest area surrounding the main field.
It has been six years since the last burn at Blue Jay, so we were very excited!
Fire has always been a part of the environment and is very important for clearing the way for new growth, increasing plant biodiversity, and reducing invasive species.
In fact, a 2019 study showed that tick exposure was reduced by 98% in sites that are frequently burned!
