Town of Garner issued the following announcement on Oct. 10.
Vandora Springs Elementary School will celebrate walking and rolling to school this Wednesday with its first-ever International Walk to School Day event. The event is estimated to include approximately 100 students, as well as parents and other guests. Invited guests include WCPSS leaders, county commissioners, and Town of Garner staff and elected officials.

Students and parents who plan to walk or roll to school will meet starting at 7:30 a.m. at the Renewal Garner Advent Christian Church parking lot (1120 Vandora Springs Road, at the corner of Vandora Springs and Woodland). The distance from the church parking lot to the main entrance of the school is just under 0.25 miles. Guest speakers will speak briefly at 7:50 a.m., and departure to school will begin at 8 a.m.
Participants will cross Vandora Springs Road at Vandora Avenue with the help of Garner NC Police. They will then proceed south on Vandora Springs Road sidewalk until reaching the path or stairway that leads onto the school campus and to the main entrance. The walk is about 5 minutes long.
