TOWN OF ROLESVILLE: Mayor's Message on Mask Mandate

Interviewmedia

Town of Rolesville issued the following announcement on Aug. 19.

The Town of Rolesville takes the health and safety of its residents very seriously and is concerned with the resurgence of the Corona Virus. New COVID-19 cases are being reported in an increasingly alarming rate and when you take the Delta variant in to consideration, we believe our concerns are justified. We thank our residents for all of their past efforts in keeping cases of COVID-19 to a minimum by following the three W’s: Wear, Wait, Wash - wear a cloth face covering, wait six feet apart from others, and wash your hands often or use hand sanitizer; and we sincerely ask and hope that you continue to do so.

Tuesday night, during its Regular Meeting, the Town Board voted to join Wake County in re-instituting a mask mandate to become effective Friday, August 20th at 7:00 a.m. The mandate requires, individuals, regardless of vaccination status, to wear face coverings indoors, in businesses, public places, public transportation facilities and public vehicles. Rolesville is joined by other Wake County municipalities in this mandate.

The decision to join the Wake County declaration did not come without some debate about the merits of requirements versus mandates and the Town Board discussed multiple issues and scenarios before coming to the conclusion that to mandate the wearing of masks is in the best interest of our town as we strive to reach the end of this pandemic as quickly and as proactively as we can also by strongly urging everyone to get vaccinated.

For some great information on the virtues of vaccination in the fight against COVID-19 and its variants, watch this video featuring WakeMed Hospitals’ front line heroes who are seeing just how bad COVID-19 is firsthand.

We appreciate your cooperation and ask that you continue the 3 Ws, suggest your getting vaccinated as soon as possible and hope that everyone remains safe and virus free.
