Wake County delayed opening of some facilities to provide employees more time to clean up loose debris from Tropical Storm Isaias, county policymakers said.
The delay was scheduled for the morning of Aug 4, Wake County said in a news release and was announced the day before as a response to forecasted heavy rain and strong winds overnight in the area as a result of Tropical Storm Isaias.
Wake County parks and open spaces had openings delayed until 10 a.m. and solid waste facilities opened at 9 a.m. Libraries decided their openings on a case-by-case basis.
With Isaias, policymakers also had to account for COVID-19. North Carolina Emergency Management urged people that needed to evacuate to seek shelter with friends and family, or in hotel rooms, instead of public facilities.
Wake County residents can call the states 2-1-1 hotline or visit readync.org to obtain information about shelters. They are also urged to sign up for ReadyWake emergency alerts at readywake.com to receive important information directly by text, email or phone in the event of possible disasters.
