TOWN OF ROLESVILLE: Mayor's March 27 Message on COVID-19

Covid 19 message from mayor

Town of Rolesville issued the following announcement on Mar. 27.

Stay Home, Stay Safe, and Stay Connected

Fellow Rolesville Residents,

Over the course of the past week since my last communication, the COVID-19 in our region and nationally continues to evolve and spread. At the Town of Rolesville, we continue to take seriously direction from our Governor, Wake County officials, and public health agencies. Together, with everyone doing their part, we must slow the spread of COVID-19 and reduce the severity of risk to everyone in our community.

Slowing rate of spread is of the upmost importance, and will require each of you to take the present situation very seriously. The last Wake Country report from Health Officials indicates our rate is growing every day. As we have seen from the experience in New York City, if we don’t slow this spread the three Wake County hospitals will be overburdened. Due to this serous situation, the Centers for Disease Control and the Wake County Public Health officials continue to advise that we should stay at home to stay healthy. Staying at home will greatly reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Today, Wake County is implementing further emergency restrictions to encourage Wake County residents to remain in their home or place of residence until April 16th. Information on these restrictions are on the Wake County website.

You can count on us. Our Town, Fire District, and Wake County EMS will continue to provide emergency response, public safety, and other essential services. Raleigh water services will be uninterrupted. Town employees are still providing services while we limit our direct public interaction and practice appropriate social distancing and separation.

For the most up to date information on Town services and resources available, continue to monitor the Town of Rolesville website.

Updated Changes to Town services and programs. To continue to do our part in helping slow the spread of COVID-19 we are making further adjustments to some of our programs and services including:

  • Town Hall – Our offices are closed to the public. Check for alternative methods of payment for your water and tax bills. Staff are available only by phone and e-mail. Contact us if you need assistance.
  •  Town Board Meetings – The April 7th Board meeting is cancelled. At this time, the April 21st work session and meeting is scheduled. If this meeting is held, it will be only for agenda items that are essential for Town business and budget. Any change of status of this meeting and any other possible meetings will be made in a timely fashion for public information.
  •  Parks and Greenways – These public spaces continue to be open to the public. Use of the parks and greenways must adhere to social distancing requirements. All playgrounds and bathrooms are closed.
  •  Sports Programs – These programs will now be suspended until April 16th.
  •  Rolesville Businesses – We encourage supporting local businesses that are operating under the current restrictions. Our website is hosting a business resources page and we encourage businesses to keep up on updates. As this event progress, I will have more discussion pertaining situations that our small business owners are facing. They are facing the impact of the requirements that are being put in place to keep us safe. The business owners should be thanked and appreciated.
  •  Food Security Program – Rolesville is supporting community Food Security for those in need of assistance. I cannot understate how important this program is in this extraordinary time of hardship. As stated before, thank you, our community for coming together like never before.
Finally, information regarding the COVID-19 pandemic is changing by the hour and by the day. Our response to the virus will require changes in how we continue to serve our community. We’ll keep you informed on what we’re learning and how it impacts our Town services on our website and through social media.

I am encouraged the leaders of our State and County are making sound decisions on the expert advice that is being given. This virus will not go away unless we take the actions that we must. Please give me your support by following the restrictions and recommendations from Wake County based on health and safety evidence.

So, stay home, stay safe, and stay connected to each other Rolesville.

Sincerely,

Ronnie I. Currin
