Red Hat has announced the winners of its APAC Innovation Awards 2025 for Vietnam, highlighting organizations that have used open source technologies to drive innovation and business transformation. This year, Vietnam Prosperity Joint-Stock Commercial Bank (VPBank) was recognized for its efforts in digital transformation.

The awards honor 30 organizations across the Asia Pacific region that have implemented Red Hat’s open source solutions to improve competitiveness and deliver value to their industries. The event featured five award categories: Digital Transformation, Hybrid Cloud Infrastructure, Cloud-native Development, Automation, and a new category focused on AI and Emerging Tech.

VPBank received the Digital Transformation award. As one of Vietnam’s leading financial institutions with over three decades of experience, VPBank has played a significant role in the country’s economic growth. The bank aimed to modernize its core banking infrastructure as part of a long-term strategy to meet increasing customer and business demands.

To support this goal, VPBank became the first bank in ASEAN to deploy its Temenos T24 core banking system on Red Hat OpenShift Platform Plus. This move established an enterprise-grade cloud platform that automates deployment processes and enhances flexibility and performance while maintaining compliance. The migration allows VPBank to scale efficiently, reduce infrastructure costs, and accelerate its plan to become one of the largest technology-driven banks in Vietnam and Asia.

Marjet Andriesse, senior vice president and general manager for APJC at Red Hat, stated: “The pace of change in Asia Pacific shows no signs of slowing, especially as AI becomes a core driver of business transformation. Despite these demands, our customers have delivered remarkable results, showing that innovation thrives when paired with open source. The Red Hat APAC Innovation Awards 2025 are an opportune time to recognize and celebrate these achievements, highlighting how our customers are unlocking what’s next and shaping a future defined by creativity, resilience, and impact.”

Wong Kok Seng Augustine, Chief Information Officer at VPBank said: “At VPBank, our goal is to build a digital-first foundation that drives agility, resilience, and continuous innovation. Partnering with Red Hat has enabled us to modernize our core banking platform with greater flexibility, speed, and reliability—capabilities that are essential for a fast-evolving financial landscape. This transformation strengthens how we serve our customers, empowers our teams to innovate with confidence, and positions VPBank as a regional leader in technology-driven banking.”

The recognition reflects ongoing trends where organizations across Asia Pacific use open source technologies not only for operational improvements but also as tools for navigating complexity in evolving markets.
