Toyota West Virginia is set to invest $88 million into the assembly of new hybrid transaxles, bringing its plant investment total to over $2.8 billion. This move is expected to secure long-term jobs for over 2,000 team members at the facility, located in Buffalo, West Virginia. The production of these transaxles is scheduled to commence in late 2026, aiding future North American-assembled Toyota and Lexus models. The hybrid transaxles play a crucial role by transferring power between the engine, electric motor, and wheels in hybrid electric vehicles, contributing to Toyota’s multi-pathway approach to electrification.
David Rosier, president of Toyota West Virginia, commented on the investment, saying, “This investment is another example of Toyota’s ‘build where we sell’ philosophy and further proof of the company’s confidence in our team members.”
Additionally, West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey praised the investment, stating, “I applaud this major investment into our state… Thank you to Toyota for their commitment to growing their presence here in the Mountain State.”
In conjunction with the investment announcement, Toyota West Virginia is donating $100,000 to the Marshall Advanced Manufacturing Center at Marshall University. This donation will support workforce development programs, aiming to broaden recruitment into advanced manufacturing careers.
Marshall University President Brad D. Smith expressed gratitude for the donation: “This generous contribution from Toyota West Virginia will have a lasting impact on our efforts to create a more dynamic and innovative workforce in advanced manufacturing.”
Toyota West Virginia has also received acknowledgment from West Virginia State Senator Glenn Jefferies, who highlighted the plant as a key economic driver: “This announcement… is yet another example of Toyota’s continued commitment to investing in West Virginia and supporting this plant.”
Toyota operates across the U.S. with nearly 50,000 employees and has invested over $25 billion in American manufacturing since 2018. It remains committed to advancing sustainable and next-generation mobility solutions. The company has also launched a tour booking platform to allow guests to explore U.S. manufacturing facilities.
