Toyota has announced the launch of an enhanced Toyota Audio Multimedia system, which will debut in the 2026 RAV4 and later expand to other models. The updated system introduces several new features aimed at improving user experience and connectivity.
One of the main changes is the integration of AT&T’s 5G network, marking the first time Toyota vehicles will use this technology. This upgrade is expected to provide broader coverage, faster speeds, and expanded capabilities for drivers across North America.
The multimedia platform continues to run on Automotive Grade Linux with open-source software. It now incorporates Woven by Toyota’s Arene software development kit, a step toward creating fully software-defined vehicles. This foundation is intended to support advanced safety, security, and connectivity features globally.
The user interface has been redesigned for greater customization and ease of use. Drivers can configure their home screen with widgets for navigation, drive mode, audio controls, connected devices, and weather updates. A Quick Control Menu gives immediate access to frequently used settings such as Bluetooth connections or screen brightness adjustments.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility remain available options. The Voice Assistant feature has been improved with embedded processing that allows faster responses without relying on cloud connectivity. Users can activate it with commands like “Hey Toyota” to control various vehicle functions using natural language.
Navigation features have also been upgraded. For the first time, full-screen native navigation will be shown in the digital gauge cluster behind the steering wheel when using an active Drive Connect trial or subscription.
A new standard Drive Recorder function enables dashcam-style recording through external cameras built into the vehicle. Video clips from manual or triggered events can be played back on the head unit or downloaded via USB.
For plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), including the upcoming 2026 RAV4 GR Sport PHEV, a dedicated EV Domain has been added to help drivers manage charging schedules and monitor battery status directly from the head unit or through the Toyota app.
Remote Connect features have been expanded as well; customers with an active subscription can now control more vehicle functions—such as headlights or windows—remotely via the app.
Entertainment offerings include SiriusXM with 360L—a combination of satellite radio and streaming content—and integrated Spotify streaming for users who link their accounts through onboard Wi-Fi.
“The teams behind our new Toyota Audio Multimedia system have worked together to build something we are proud to bring to the RAV4 this year,” said Brian Inouye, chief engineer at Toyota Motor North America. “The enhancements we’ve made are driven by both function and performance at their core, and we are excited for our customers to enjoy an in-cabin experience like never before.”
Toyota employs nearly 48,000 people in the U.S., contributing to design, engineering, and assembly at its manufacturing plants—including its North Carolina facility that began assembling automotive batteries for electrified vehicles in 2025.
