Toyota Motor North America announced on April 1 that its March 2026 U.S. vehicle sales totaled 211,617 units, reflecting an 8.5 percent decrease compared to March of the previous year. The company reported that electrified vehicles made up a significant portion of these sales, with 115,422 units sold in March—an increase of 2.5 percent from the prior year and accounting for more than half of total monthly sales.
The report shows that despite overall declines in both monthly and quarterly figures, demand for electrified models remains strong across Toyota and Lexus brands. This trend is notable as automakers continue to focus on expanding their electric and hybrid offerings in response to changing consumer preferences.
For the first quarter of 2026, Toyota Motor North America recorded total U.S. sales of 569,420 vehicles—a slight decrease of just 0.1 percent compared to the same period last year. Electrified vehicle sales for the quarter reached 287,276 units but were down by a modest 0.5 percent versus the previous year’s first quarter results.
Andrew Gilleland, senior vice president of Automotive Operations Group at Toyota Motor North America said: “Our first-quarter performance demonstrates the underlying strength of our business… We maintained stable sales year-over-year, even while navigating production constraints and limited inventory during the ramp-up of our traditional volume leader, the new RAV4. This resilience gives us great confidence as we continue driving toward our full-year goals.”
In division-specific results for March: Toyota division posted sales of 182,606 vehicles (down by nearly seven percent), while Lexus reported a steeper decline with March sales at just over twenty-nine thousand vehicles (down more than seventeen percent). Notably however, certain models such as Corolla Cross Gas and Grand Highlander Hybrid achieved all-time best-ever results within Toyota’s lineup; similarly within Lexus’ range both RZ and NX Plug-in Hybrid reached record highs.
Toyota noted it currently offers thirty-two different electrified vehicle options across its dealerships under both brands.
