Toyota has announced the 2026 4Runner, marking the second year of its sixth generation with a lineup that features nine grades, including Trailhunter and Platinum. The new models will be available at dealerships in fall 2025, starting at $41,570 plus $1,450 for delivery processing and handling.

The vehicle offers two powertrain options: a standard i-FORCE 2.4-liter turbocharged engine delivering up to 278 horsepower and 317 lb.-ft. of torque, and an i-FORCE MAX hybrid system providing up to 326 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque. The i-FORCE MAX is standard on the TRD Pro, Trailhunter, and Platinum trims and is also available on other select models.

The Trailhunter grade includes off-road components such as Old Man Emu shocks, a high-mount air intake, onboard air compressor, and ARB roof rack. The TRD Pro comes equipped with FOX QS3 adjustable shocks and performance air intake. All i-FORCE MAX models are fitted with four-wheel drive as standard.

Built on Toyota’s TNGA-F global platform—which it shares with the Tacoma, Tundra, Land Cruiser, and Sequoia—the new 4Runner benefits from increased chassis rigidity through high-strength steel construction and weight reduction via aluminum in the upper body.

A notable addition for off-road capability is the Stabilizer Disconnect Mechanism (SDM), standard on Trailhunter and TRD Pro grades, which increases suspension articulation at the push of a button. This feature is now optional on the i-FORCE MAX TRD Off-Road Premium trim.

Towing capacity reaches up to 6,000 pounds across certain configurations. Available towing technology includes a trailer brake controller and Trailer Back-Up Guide with Straight Path Assist for easier maneuvering while reversing with a trailer.

The lineup consists of SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Sport Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, Limited, Platinum, TRD Pro, and Trailhunter grades. Each offers varying levels of equipment from basic multimedia screens to premium leather seating and advanced audio systems.

Advanced technology features include an available 14-inch touchscreen display supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. A digital key system allows compatible smartphones to lock or unlock doors remotely; this feature can also be shared digitally for controlled access.

All models come standard with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0—a suite of safety technologies including Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (now enhanced to detect motorcyclists), Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist that recognizes more lane markers such as guardrails for improved lane definition, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control capable of detecting multiple vehicles in adjacent lanes for smoother speed adjustments when changing lanes or following traffic ahead; Lane Tracing Assist which helps provide more space between vehicles being passed by offsetting driving path within the lane; Emergency Driving Stop System designed to bring the vehicle safely to a stop if driver input ceases due to inattentiveness or medical emergency; Road Sign Assist displaying icons of detected road signs; Blind Spot Monitor; Rear Cross-Traffic Alert; and Proactive Driving Assist which uses camera/radar inputs for gentle braking/steering in specific situations like distance control or curve negotiation.

Toyota provides warranty coverage that includes three years/36,000 miles basic coverage (excluding regular wear items), five years/60,000 miles powertrain coverage plus corrosion protection without mileage limitation for five years. Hybrid components are covered up to eight years/100,000 miles (whichever comes first), while hybrid batteries are warrantied for ten years/150,000 miles (whichever comes first) and can transfer between owners.

The company also offers ToyotaCare—covering scheduled maintenance for two years or 25,000 miles—and roadside assistance for two years regardless of mileage.

Toyota employs nearly 48,000 people in the United States across its network of almost 1,500 dealerships. Its North Carolina plant began assembling automotive batteries for electrified vehicles in 2025 as part of its commitment to next-generation mobility through both Toyota and Lexus brands.
