Toyota has introduced the 2026 Corolla Cross Hybrid Nasu Edition, a concept vehicle that will be showcased at the 2025 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. The Nasu Edition is designed to highlight the brand’s focus on outdoor activities and adventurous lifestyles, drawing inspiration from Japan’s Mt. Nasu, a location known for its hiking and natural scenery.
The project was developed by Toyota’s Service Parts and Accessories Development (SPAD) team. The team managed all aspects of the build, including CAD design, 3D printing, CNC machining, and assembly at various locations before finalizing the concept.
“The Corolla Cross is one of the most versatile vehicles in our lineup, and the Nasu Edition shows how much further it can go,” said Steve Park, senior product planner for Toyota and Lexus Vehicle Accessories. “While the inspiration for this build is the adventurous spirit of Mt. Nasu in Japan, ‘nasu’ as a verb in Japanese also means ‘to achieve.’ We hope this build inspires others to build, to experience, and to achieve.”
The Nasu Edition keeps the standard hybrid powertrain found in the 2026 Corolla Cross: a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine paired with three electric motors for a combined output of 196 horsepower. The vehicle features all-wheel drive with custom truck wheels fitted with Toyo Open Country A/T III all-terrain tires. A custom suspension lift increases ground clearance.
Additional modifications include a unique body kit with a modified hood scoop and a purple wrap referencing another meaning of “nasu” in Japanese—eggplant. Overlanding equipment such as rock sliders, a cargo basket, an articulating roof rack, a custom drawer system in the cargo area, and a refrigerator on a sliding tray are included.
Lighting upgrades consist of modified lightbars and fog lamps from Toyota along with illuminated door sills and puddle lamps inside. The cabin includes features aimed at outdoor use. The concept also displays a downhill mountain bike on its roof rack as an homage to cycling enthusiasts.
“With the Corolla Cross Nasu Edition, we’re showing how one of our most popular and accessible nameplates can be reimagined to embody Toyota’s adventurous spirit,” said Mike Tripp, group vice president of Toyota Marketing. “This concept demonstrates that possibility isn’t limited to our trucks and body-on-frame SUVs — it extends across our lineup. At Toyota, we believe in building vehicles that empower our customers to do more, explore more, and achieve more, and the Nasu Edition is a bold example of that philosophy.”
The Nasu Edition will be displayed at SEMA from November 4–7 at the Las Vegas Convention Center as part of Toyota’s “Powered by Possibility” theme. This year’s display includes over two dozen concepts showcasing different powertrains: internal combustion engines (ICE), hybrids (HEV), plug-in hybrids (PHEV), battery electrics (BEV), and fuel cell electrics (FCEV).
Toyota cautions that this prototype uses parts not available from Toyota which may void warranties or affect safety or street legality.
In addition to its vehicle development efforts like those shown at SEMA each year in Las Vegas https://www.semashow.com/, Toyota continues work on sustainable mobility solutions across its brands in North America through manufacturing plants such as its North Carolina facility where automotive batteries began production in 2025.
Toyota employs nearly 48,000 people directly in the U.S., supporting local communities through educational initiatives via its Driving Possibilities program.
