Duke Energy Foundation has announced a new financial commitment to enhance storm preparedness in North Carolina. The foundation is offering $500,000 in grants to local organizations, with individual grants capped at $25,000.
"The impact of Hurricane Helene last fall showed us the importance of strong collaboration between emergency management agencies, first responders and nonprofit organizations when it comes to natural disasters," stated Kendal Bowman, Duke Energy North Carolina state president. "We’re proud to support storm preparedness efforts in the communities we serve as they continue to grow and see new opportunities to bolster resilience to severe weather events."
The funding will back various initiatives aimed at improving readiness for storms and natural disasters. These include programs that promote inter-agency cooperation, innovative disaster planning, community education through training and materials, and specialized training for first responders.
Since 2020, Duke Energy Foundation has allocated nearly $5.6 million towards storm preparedness in the state. Previous beneficiaries include the City of Wilmington's flood gauge installation project and Raleigh's weather radio distribution initiative.
Organizations interested in applying for these grants have until April 25 at 5 p.m. ET to submit their applications via the Duke Energy Foundation website.
The Duke Energy Foundation annually provides over $30 million in philanthropic support across its service areas. Funded by Duke Energy shareholders, it focuses on addressing community needs where its customers reside.
