COUNTY OF WAKE: Celebrate National Wellness Month

County of Wake issued the following announcement on July 19.

Celebrate National Wellness Month with a series of in-person and virtual programs at Wake County Public Libraries.

Medication Safety Best Practices

Southeast Regional Library

Tuesday, Aug. 2, from 10 – 11:30 a.m.

Thursday, Aug. 4, from 10 – 11:30 a.m.

Tuesday, Aug. 9, from 10 – 11:30 a.m.

Thursday, Aug. 11, from 10 – 11:30 a.m.

Medications can be dangerous to you and the environment if not stored, monitored, and disposed of properly. Drop by on any of the listed dates to speak to a Poe Center for Health Education representative about medication safety best practices.

EAT SMART Nutrition Classes

Southeast Regional Library

Wednesdays, Aug. 10 – Sept. 14, from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Learn how to prepare simple and affordable meals, food safety, meal planning and how to save money on food. Join Nutrition Educator Davida Julien, in partnership with Eat Smart Move More NC initiative, for this informative series. Weekly cooking demos included. All materials will be provided. Space is limited, participants must register for all 6 weeks.

Meditation for Everyday Life (Virtual)

Tuesday, Aug. 23, from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Join Dr. Richard Seader as he discusses the extraordinary effect of meditation to reduce stress-related responses, improve concentration, and enhance clarity of thought. Includes a short meditation session. Register to receive your zoom access: wakegov.com/libraries.

Dimensions of Wellness: Stress Management (Virtual)

Thursday, Aug. 25, from 6 – 7:30 p.m.

As adults, we spend a lot of time caring for our children or others, and sometimes we forget our own self-care. This program will empower participants to explore the positives and negatives of stress and the effects ongoing stress can have on their mental, physical, and emotional health. Participants will have an opportunity to explore self-care strategies and how to develop a wellness routine. During the discussion, we will also cover how stress affects youth, including tips on increasing mental wellness, promoting coping strategies, and building resilience.
