The Wake County School Board agreed to start the year-round school calendar on Aug. 3, approximately a month later than normal as the district prepares to operate in a COVID-19 world. The year-round calendar typically begins in July.

The school board discussed the possibility of pushing the single-track-year-round school to a standard calendar for the upcoming year, the News & Observer reported on June 2. District officials said the amended dates are because of a new law that alters what it means to be a year-round school The change could be approved as early as Tuesday, June 16.

Wake is pushing for lawmakers to change the guideline Superintendent Cathy Moore said, the News & Observer reported.

“We have not abandoned hope that we can get some type of a correction or an option through legislative action that would permit us to move forward," Moore said, The News & Observer reported.
