Red Hat has unveiled Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 at the Red Hat Summit in Boston. This latest version of the enterprise Linux platform is designed to address the growing demands of hybrid cloud environments and artificial intelligence (AI) integration.
The new release introduces several key features, including AI-powered Linux management through a tool called Lightspeed. This feature aims to assist IT professionals by providing context-aware guidance and actionable recommendations via a natural language interface.
In terms of security, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 integrates standards for post-quantum cryptography from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). This initiative is part of an effort to prepare for potential future quantum-based threats.
Additionally, the platform introduces a container-native approach known as image mode, which unifies the build, deployment, and management processes for both operating systems and applications. This method aims to reduce configuration drift and establish consistent practices across IT operations.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 also offers enhancements in support for emerging architectures and provides developers with tools like Red Hat Insights for more informed decision-making during the build process.
Gunnar Hellekson, vice president and general manager of Red Hat Enterprise Linux at Red Hat, stated that “Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 is engineered to empower enterprise IT and developers to not just manage the present, but to architect the future.”
Stefan Basenach from ABB highlighted how collaboration with Red Hat simplifies their development lifecycle using image mode. Meanwhile, Ryan Caskey from IDC noted that Red Hat’s solutions aim to provide a foundational layer for current and future IT strategies.
Anish Bhatt from Salesforce commented on how image mode helps stabilize their environments by reducing configuration drift and enabling consistent deployments.
The new version is now available through the Red Hat Customer Portal. Developers can access it via no-cost programs that offer various resources such as software access and documentation.
Red Hat continues its commitment to innovation with this release by supporting hybrid cloud operations and enhancing security measures against evolving threats. The company positions itself as a leader in integrating AI capabilities within its enterprise solutions while addressing industry needs for secure computing foundations.
