Red Hat has announced Hutchison Telecommunications (Hong Kong) Limited and HKT as the Hong Kong winners of the Red Hat APAC Innovation Awards 2025. The awards recognize organizations that use open source technologies to drive innovation, transformation, and business impact.
The annual event celebrates companies across Asia Pacific that have used open source solutions to address business challenges and adapt to changing technology trends, including artificial intelligence. Thirty organizations in the region were recognized this year for their achievements.
Marjet Andriesse, Senior Vice President and General Manager for APJC at Red Hat, said: “The pace of change in Asia Pacific shows no signs of slowing, especially as AI becomes a core driver of business transformation. Despite these demands, our customers have delivered remarkable results, showing that innovation thrives when paired with open source. The Red Hat APAC Innovation Awards 2025 are an opportune time to recognise and celebrate these achievements, highlighting how our customers are unlocking what’s next and shaping a future defined by creativity, resilience, and impact.”
Hutchison Telecommunications (Hong Kong) Limited (HTHK) was recognized in the Digital Transformation category. The company provides mobile telecommunications services under several brands such as 3 Hong Kong and SoSIM. To support its digital transformation strategy amid growing demand for agile services, HTHK worked with Red Hat to modernize its IT infrastructure using Red Hat OpenShift. This move helped the company consolidate systems, improve service agility, accelerate application development, and reduce operational complexity.
Damien Leong, Chief Technology and Transformation Officer at HTHK stated: “Building upon a cloud-native foundation with Red Hat OpenShift has provided us a strong platform to consolidate operations and modernise applications, helping to enhance our data infrastructure. This shift has given us the agility to release new features faster and respond more effectively to market demands, while strengthening the reliability and coordination of our deployments. In line with our one-cloud architecture, Red Hat’s open source technology enables innovation with our partners and fosters stronger collaboration within our teams. With this foundation in place, we are well positioned to focus on our AI building capabilities, supporting our long-term growth and competitiveness.”
HKT received recognition in the Automation category for expanding automation within its operations to improve service delivery speed while reducing downtime. By embedding automation into core processes across its telecommunications business lines—including enterprise solutions—HKT aimed to increase reliability for customers throughout Hong Kong.
