Red Hat announced on May 6 the upcoming general availability of Red Hat Enterprise Linux versions 10.2 and 9.8, introducing advanced security features, AI-powered automation, and streamlined upgrade processes for hybrid cloud environments.
The new releases are designed to help organizations address emerging security threats while enabling faster adoption of artificial intelligence technologies and minimizing operational challenges. According to Red Hat, these updates aim to bridge the gap between traditional system reliability and innovations such as AI and quantum computing.
Gunnar Hellekson, vice president and general manager of Red Hat Enterprise Linux at Red Hat, said: “Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10.2 and 9.8 directly address the balancing act between the speed of AI innovation and the rigors of enterprise security, turning complex operational hurdles into automated, repeatable processes.” He continued: “By integrating post-quantum cryptography and AI-driven upgrade tools, we’re helping our customers confidently push into computing’s future with defenses against emerging threats and the ability to consistently and reliably scale AI workloads across the hybrid cloud.”
Key features in these releases include enhanced confidential computing capabilities that protect sensitive data during processing in memory or CPU; integration of post-quantum cryptography aligned with National Institute of Standards and Technology standards; sealed images for hardware-rooted security; image mode enhancements for consistent workflow management; as well as new automation tools like Red Hat Ansible Certified Content Collections to simplify upgrades.
Additional updates include quantum-resistant signatures via Red Hat Certificate System 11.0, expanded malware detection through collaboration with CrowdStrike, Model Context Protocol servers offering an AI-ready approach to Linux management in preview stages, open source agent goose for streamlined infrastructure management tasks, improved sovereign control through local vulnerability triage for air-gapped environments using Red Hat Satellite 6.19 (now generally available), pre-download options for platform updates in image mode workflows, as well as extended support options.
Looking ahead, Red Hat stated that both versions will be available soon while continuing efforts to provide a unified operating system platform focused on meeting modern IT needs.
