Red Hat announced new management features for Red Hat Enterprise Linux, including AI-powered package recommendations and improved planning tools through Red Hat Insights. These enhancements aim to help organizations manage their IT environments more effectively and support the adoption of artificial intelligence in hybrid cloud settings.

Mike McGrath, vice president of Software Engineering at Red Hat, said, “We’re delivering capabilities that hyper-focus on the ability to make resourceful, strategic choices, leading to more scalable, optimized and manageable operations for enterprises prioritizing innovation.”

The company noted that industries are increasingly adopting generative AI and analytics to improve productivity and manage complex infrastructures. A recent IDC report predicts that these use cases could boost productivity by 10% and generate $5 billion in economic value.

Red Hat Insights now offers a planning feature that provides a detailed view of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux roadmap. This allows IT teams to better understand how operating system releases align with their needs, making it easier to maintain supported systems and plan upgrades. The planning tool also aims to increase confidence in ongoing support for different versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and AppStream.

A new “shift left” approach is introduced through Insights image builder package recommendations powered by Red Hat Enterprise Linux Lightspeed. This feature helps teams identify relevant packages early in the build process, supporting efficient resource selection and cost management.

Red Hat is adding Insights advisor functionality into Red Hat Satellite 6.17. Organizations can now access proactive recommendations without public internet connectivity because Satellite stores advisor rules locally within a container. This method benefits sectors with strict regulations or limited connectivity by allowing updates without sending host data outside the organization.

Additionally, the new Red Hat Insights proxy offers an alternative connectivity solution for companies with network restrictions. It enables predictive analytics and security insights without requiring each Linux host to connect directly to the internet.

Satellite 6.17 also introduces image mode support, allowing customers to manage their IT environments using container-native workflows across applications and operating systems. This integration is intended to streamline operations across hybrid cloud infrastructure, AI workloads, and datacenters.

The latest version of Satellite includes a tech preview of Insights advisor and image mode support. Customers with Red Hat Enterprise Linux subscriptions can access these new features via the Hybrid Cloud Console.

“As hybrid cloud environments become more complex and AI ventures continue to grow, IT teams are continuously tasked with achieving more, moving faster and planning for the future amongst so many changing variables,” McGrath said. “To proactively manage Linux environments effectively, organizations need tools that empower them to make smart decisions precisely when it matters, based on expertise they can trust. We’re delivering capabilities that hyper-focus on the ability to make resourceful, strategic choices, leading to more scalable, optimized and manageable operations for enterprises prioritizing innovation.”

The company will discuss these updates further during its annual Summit event on May 20-21.
