The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Water Resources (DWR) has scheduled public hearings to gather input on Enbridge Gas North Carolina’s application for a water quality certification. This certification is linked to the proposed construction of a high-pressure steel natural gas transmission pipeline across Rockingham, Caswell, and Person counties.

The first hearing will take place on June 12 at 6 p.m. in the auditorium at Piedmont Community College, Person County Campus, located at 1715 College Drive, Roxboro, N.C. Registration for speakers will open at 5:30 p.m. via an onsite sign-in sheet.

A second hearing is set for June 24 at 6 p.m. in the auditorium of the Rockingham Community College Advanced Technologies Building, situated at 560 County Home Road, Wentworth, N.C. Speaker registration will similarly begin at 5:30 p.m.

Enbridge seeks approval for its T-15 Reliability Project to permanently impact 690 linear feet of jurisdictional streams and 1.39 acres of wetlands under section 404 jurisdiction. Temporary impacts include affecting 18,095 linear feet of jurisdictional streams, 0.392 acres of open waters under jurisdictional status, and impacting another 13.603 acres of wetlands under section 404.

The purpose of these hearings is to collect verbal and written feedback from the public concerning whether Enbridge’s proposal meets state water quality standards and minimizes impacts on surface waters or wetlands.

Comments can also be submitted in writing by July 25, addressed to Sue Homewood at DWR with project No. 20250069; Version 1 through the Public Notice Comment Form online or via mail to Raleigh’s address provided in the announcement.

Supporting documents are available online along with additional information about related natural gas pipeline projects anticipated by NCDEQ across the state.

For assistance in languages other than English or for translation services during public hearings, contact details have been provided for Laura Oleniacz at NCDEQ.
