In April 2024, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency awarded $156 million to EnergizeNC to expand access to solar energy in low-income and disadvantaged communities in North Carolina. The initiative is led by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s State Energy Office with collaboration from the NC Clean Energy Technology Center, the NC Clean Energy Fund, and Advanced Energy.

This program aims to reduce energy costs for residents while creating jobs and providing reliable energy access. The services are expected to launch in late 2025 with a focus on transforming solar energy growth across the state.
