In April 2024, EnergizeNC received $156 million from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to expand solar access for low-income and disadvantaged communities in North Carolina. This initiative is led by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s State Energy Office in partnership with several organizations including the NC Clean Energy Technology Center and Advanced Energy.
The program’s goals include reducing energy costs for residents, creating jobs with competitive wages, and offering reliable energy solutions to families across North Carolina. The coalition plans to begin offering services to households by late 2025, aiming to enhance solar energy deployment statewide and provide significant benefits to low-income and rural areas.
