The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Marine Fisheries, together with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, will host an informational meeting on November 5 to discuss upcoming changes in Striped Bass management for the Tar-Pamlico and Neuse Rivers. The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Washington Civic Center, located at 110 N. Gladden St., Washington, NC.

According to the agencies, a recent review of Striped Bass management in these rivers found that previous closures have not led to an increase in the population of striped bass, even though stocking efforts have continued.

In response, the Division and the Wildlife Resources Commission have developed new harvest management measures under Amendment 2 to the Striped Bass Fishery Management Plan. These measures are intended to both protect the resource and allow access to it. The new strategy focuses harvest on stocked fish in the Tar-Pamlico and Neuse rivers, while restricting harvest of Albemarle-Roanoke Striped Bass that also inhabit these areas.

More details about the Division’s analysis and materials related to the meeting are available on the Striped Bass Information Page.
